I want to learn more about public transport timetables and i would like to use fio books more offten because the activities arebetter for me. I'm glad you like the FIO books Rosemary. We will be looking at timetables during this unit. The would is divided into diferent time zones.eg: If you flew to a diferent country the time would be diferent to NZ and you would have to change the time on your watch. Diferent countries have diferent times because the sun rotates around the wouls so difent countries would see the sun at diferent times.Greenwitch is a place in England, any country on the right of Greenwitch is in front in time and any country on the left of Greenwitch is behind in time. If youn look at a would map NZ is on the very right sowe are in front of every other country in time. NZ only has 1 time sone but austrailian has 3. A huge improvement! This is a much more detailed explanation of your learning. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. We are learning about the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit for tempeture.EG: Philip and Kapiki are planning a dream trip. They want to visit the following countries- Australia, Britain, Indenesia, Figi, USA, Tonga, France and South Africa. They had $800 to spend at each country. They had to convert NZ dollars to others. $800 in NZ is $710.64 in Australia, $859.36 in Figi, 455.92 in USA, $394.8 in France, $3,749,064 in Indonesia, $970.8 in Tonga,m $284.32 in Britain and 3,271.2 in South Africa. Then we had to find out 10%, 12% and 18% of all of those.
I found this easy and fun with a little bit of challenge. I need help on understanding the question they are asking more so I know what to do without asking.
I would like to do more money coversions in this unit because I really enjoyed them! Rosemary - I think you copied the wrong learning intention today! Some good examples from your learning. Remember to explain the theory behind it as well. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Today we learnt to use temperature as a strategy to add and subtract interures. I found this very easy and I would like to do more of it in the future. This strategy helps because I know strait away what to do.(EG: -is cold and + is warm my pool is -8 degrees, I subtract -11 degrees. So I have -8 degrees and I want to takeaway -11 cold. so the pool's tempeture would be +3 degrees.) I am pleased you feel so comfortable using this strategy. I find it is an easy way to remember whether oyu need to add or subtract a number. TC

W.A.L.T find out and use different problem solving strategies.
Today I learnt a few new problem solving strategies-EG:logic reasoning-if there is a problem look for a pattern ect. I found using this new strategy a lot easy in some different questions but I enjoy this new strategy and will definetly use it a lot more than I did before. I feel like I need to learn more problem solving strategies to improve my skills in problem solving. I love to problem solve and I want to do a lot more this term. Awesome attitude Rosemary. It is important that you are comfortable with using at least 3-4 strategies and are ablt ot choose the strategy that suits the problem that you are facing.

W.A.L.T try and use different graphs for different types of data.
The last few days I learnt what continuous and descreate data is. Continuous data is a type of data when it changes over of a period of time. Descreate data is a type of data when is can't be changed and it stays the same forever.
I also learnt what a histogram s. A histogram is a type of bar graph but all the bars a joined together. A histogram also shows continuous data not descreate.
This weeke I also learnt what a scatter plot was. A scatter plot is a graph that shows continuous data but also descreate data. A scatter plot is ussualy continuous because you are comparing two different things EG: Tulip heights you are comparing number of tulips and the height of the tulips.
I found learning new graphs challenging but good because it gives me more option when choosing a graph to use. Well done Rosemary. It is good to be challenged as it means we are learning.

Yesterday we did our Otago prblem solving test. I learnt to read the questions properly and read the questions more then once.
I found the test easy and hard. The fist three questions were easy and I got them all right but the last two questions were challenging and I couldn't pull them off.I hope I do better next time.

W.A.L.T make a questionaire including specific questions and appropriate questions aswell.
I liked making a questionaire because I learnt how to make specific questions and use them in the right order.
This made me learn that the first question is ussually the most iportant and this was very fun because we got to listen to each others to see what quetions they came up with aswell and that made me realise that I could have made alot more questions and that I should have thought of more questions so I elt good to listen to others questions that they had come up.
This was one of the most learning activities that I found interesting all year and I would like to make another qustanaire throughout the rest of the year. You will get a chance to do this for your Stats Investigation Rosemary. ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... W.A.L.T display data using a box and wisker graph.
I found the box and whisker graph challenging as I always find learning new things challenging.
To do a box and whisker graph you need to have a good understanding of the median and quartile. Basically a box and whisker graph is showing the median of things. I like that I have learnt another graph and I will use it again in the future. Good to see you have picked up the vocabulary surrounding this type of graph. Remember to use the interquartile range to describe this as well. ......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

W.A.L.T make a survey/questionnaire for our statistical investigations.
I found this fun because I had never done anything like this before so it was a good experiance. MATHS POSTER
The one thing that I found frustraiting was that I couldnt think of any good ideas for my maths poster.
I had to create a maths poster to enter for the mathletics compitition.
I hope a good idea pops to mind next time!
Great entry Rosemary. How about taking a simple pattern/shape and rotating, sliding it and playing with the outline size of it. ..........................................................................................................................................................................................

Yesterday I did my Olympiad maths test and I was very disappointed in my result. I got 2/5 and I should have at least got 3/5 so I let myself down a lot! MATHS POSTER
I am doing good on my maths poster as I have come up with some good ideas. I have to mix them together and hopefully I will get something good out of it. LEARNING
In class we are learning how to create a pie gragh using a compass and a protractor. I found this easy as I had never done it before.
I need to keep in my head how to work out the % and how to display it.
Great journal entry Rosemary. It is godd that you feel confident using the protractor to draw a pie graph. Remember that you can use your NUMP strategies to help you work out % as well - if it is easily convertable to a fraction with a denominator of 10. ......................................................................................................................................................................................

Today we did our 2nd Otago prblem solving test.
I was dissapointed in my score because i got 3/5 and i got 3/5 last time aswell.
My goal last time was to beat 3/5 and i didn't complete that goal witch made me dissapointerd.
I hope i get a better score next time!

I need to improove my fractions, place values and factors because in the knowledge test we did, out of 40 I got 33.
Out of those 7 questions that I got wrong,2 were fractions, 2 were place value, 2 were basic facts and 1 was numbers before and after. This means I got atleast 1 question wrong in each question so I need to improve in all 4 sections. So I could tell by my results that I needed to practice more at home and be more prepared for another test. How are you going to practise Rosemary? There are some very good online games you can use to practise - google these concepts and see what you can come up with. There is also a good section on the nzmaths website in the families section that may have some activities to help consolidate these.

I was pleased with my results because i got 4/5 and that is the highest i have got for my otago and olympiad.
the test was very hard but i managded to pull of a good amount of questions.
I hope next time i can get 5/5 for the first time!
